What unique strengths, identities, traits, values and/or interests do you have that influence what you offer in classes and our community?

I've been working with children since I was 12 years old and it's always been a happy place for me. Children help me see the world in new ways and that helps my own well being. Being in nature is also a happy place that brings me peace and understanding. I love snakes & herpetology and teaching kids about farm & wild animals. PLG gives me an opportunity to merge all my passions!

Where did you grow up? What early childhood experiences did you have outside, with animals, plants, water, soil, fire, etc. that led you to teaching at PLG or enjoying nature?

I grew up in southern California, in a concrete jungle. I only had potted plants until I was an adult and had moved to Oregon. Now, I cherish the opportunity to grow my own food and medicine.

What philosophies or practices are important to you when engaging students? What’s your approach to supporting kids and families & engaging them in learning?

My number one philosophy when working with kids is that we are all humans learning how to process and regulate our emotions and learn how to communicate. Even as an adult I'm still learning to do this in new ways, being understanding of helping kids process any and all feelings is very important to me. Especially considering my own kiddo has struggles with that. My goal in life is to help kids learn these things now instead of struggling throughout their entire lives like I have. 

What experience & education do you have that you want to share with the PLG community?

I've been working with children since 1997. Started with babysitting and eventually full time nannying. I've worked for small families with one child and large families with 6 kids under 12 years old. I worked through covid and was the kids’ primary homeschool teacher through that. I took a break after having my own miracle rainbow baby, but missed it so much that I was eager to apply at PLG when the opportunity came. 

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to be outdoors. Hiking, camping, crafting, exploring nature and animals. I also find different crafts that catch my interest for a while before moving on to a new one. I do a lot of work in the community as well. Fostering for cat rescues, handing out food and medical needs to our houseless community and taking part in community issues.
