Wonder Gardening: Explore Together

Join us for a weekly garden adventure designed for families with little ones, ages 0-4! Our Wonder Gardening class meets every Friday evening from 4–5:30 p.m., offering a fun, nurturing space where you and your child(ren) can explore the wonders of nature together.

Each week, we’ll dive into new nature-themed adventures and activities, crafted to spark curiosity and creativity in your little one, from planting seeds and learning about soil to meeting our friendly farm animals—bunnies, chickens, geese, pigs, and goats! We’ll discover how to care for the land, the animals, and our planet, all while having fun. Expect hands-on crafts, educational materials, and a bounty of plants or potted treasures to take home. While caregivers connect in group discussions, our tots engage in sensory play to encourage curiosity and give little hands the chance to explore, learn, and grow at their own pace.

We believe financial barriers shouldn’t prevent families and students from accessing our programs. We encourage you to apply for Seeds of Success before enrolling and will send you a discount code if you are eligible.

What to expect: We’ll begin each class under the shade of our hazelnut trees, giving kids a chance to settle in while caregivers connect. We’ll kick off with a song and a quick check-in before embarking on the day’s adventure, which varies each week. All activities are hands-on with plenty of opportunities to explore. We’ll wrap up back where we started, enjoying a snack and time for families to share experiences and build community.

For comfort and mobility, consider bringing a baby carrier, as wagons and strollers may not work on all terrain. We walk at a toddler’s pace! Classes are held rain or shine. We have a spacious hoop house for shelter, but we’ll also venture out in the rain. Please come dressed for the elements—boots, hats, rain gear, and sunscreen are great depending on the season. Don’t forget a healthy snack for you and your little one(s) to enjoy during our wind-down time.

Who can participate: Children from birth to age 4 participate with up to two members of their family. As a community-building class, we ask that the same two people attend each week. We have one Family Day a season, when other family members are invited to explore the farm with us. Our participants represent diverse communities with a wide range of learning styles, cultural backgrounds, abilities, and interests. We are committed to providing accommodations to support you and your children in learning and having fun at our farm.

Class details:

  • Time: Fridays, 4-5:30 p.m. Class starts around 4 p.m., understanding that toddler time doesn’t always follow a schedule.

  • Seasonal Schedule 2025: Each season features fresh and exciting projects, ensuring no two seasons are the same!

    • Spring: March 7 – May 30 (13 weeks)

    • Two-week break - Family gardening opportunities may be available.

    • Summer: June 20 – August 29 (11 weeks)

    • Fall: September 5 – November 7 (10 weeks) - Support from WellMama in Fall.

    • Fall/Winter Break - Ask us about volunteer opportunities!

About our staff: Our instructors are specially trained and approved by the Oregon Department of Early Learning & Care Central Background Registry, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for children. In addition to their qualifications, they undergo continuous professional development to meet the unique needs of both individuals and groups.

Our staff have a deep passion for organic farming and gardening with expertise in creating inclusive, hands-on learning environments. With backgrounds spanning applied science, community health, and youth outdoor learning, our instructors can tailor experiences that support a diverse range of participant needs. We encourage an approach that is both nurturing and empowering, fostering a love for nature and discovery in every child.

Communication: Instructors will correspond with caregivers via Remind to provide and receive real-time feedback regularly. Family members may use the Remind app or receive text messages directly to their phone number. We can accommodate other family communication needs on a case-by-case basis.

We’re excited to have you join us!
